Client love story: "Such an incredible opportunity to just "be" and be "me" - the experience has really awakened an appreciation for who I am and how I share who I am with those around me. I was originally quite anxious - no makeup and I honestly have never liked photos.
Mel's ease made the morning feel like I was "hanging out" with a long lost friend and at one point I honestly forgot there was a camera as we chatted.
My confidence grew during the session, becoming more relaxed with plenty of laughter. I took the opportunity post photo shoot to really reflect upon so many areas of my life. Reflection became painting, sketching, drawing and art journaling... and the experience has led to a new openness and boldness to shake of the perfectionism with a definite shift in how I create art.
I recently collected my beautiful black and white photos and timber box - just wow. Holding each mounted photo was incredibly special - a gamut of emotions. What a privilege to have met Mel and to share a morning photographing me in such a way that she "saw" and captured the real me.
If anyone asked me about Mel's empowerment experience, I would highly recommend it. From day 1, Mel's communication and approach made the whole experience so easy and comfortable. Whether you are going through something now or at a cross-roads or starting a new chapter or you just want to celebrate you (and we all should), this is definitely worthwhile.
I am continually reminded when I open up my beautiful timber box and change the front photo that I am seen, I AM ENOUGH, AND MORE THAN ANTHING - IT IS DEFINITELY OK TO BE ME.

"The hug I didn't know I needed". Read Gillian's story about how this photograph I captured was a turning point for her. She approached the photo shoot as a reclamation. A way to see herself again after her life experiences marked by separation—forced adoption, the rupture of kinship ties and the loss of cultural continuity.

"I approached the shoot as a kind of reclamation.

A way to allow others to see me, too.

On the day, Brisbane’s heat and humidity wrapped around us like a thick cloak.
But I felt calm. Trust settled in my bones.

And when Mel gently suggested I hug myself, I did.

It felt awkward. Foreign. But it also felt… real.

When I was selecting which images to print, I paused on that self-hug portrait.
Then I skipped past it.

But Mel hadn’t.

Weeks later, when I returned to collect the final prints, she gifted me that very image.
She’d seen something in it I wasn’t quite ready to name.

Now, I keep it where I can see it.

That photo is more than a portrait.
It’s a turning point.
A self-hug.
A new story."

Every now and then I ask a client to reward themselves with a hug at the end of their photo shoot to celebrate themselves. It is definitely a foreign feeling when it is new experience but something magical starts to happen when you let go and connect with your touch and self compassion.

I love the reveal of wall art when I can get to unwrap and inspect the portrait to make sure the print is beautifully balanced with highlights and shadows. I am always in awe and stand in silence while I take it in.
