Fantastic! We cannot wait to welcome you.  You can easily book online here or book a call with me https://melwattphotography.com.au/book-a-call/ to book your session.

There is no such thing as being photogenic. Did you know that photogenic means emitting light for biology? We are biology and we radiate our own beautiful light and energy.  And that is what I will capture for you… your incredible radiant light. I will photograph you in the most beautiful way and you have to trust me can see it. Bonus is I am an empath and will see you and know when to capture your true self.

When you are most afraid of doing something, it is pretty exciting to challenge yourself to do it.  I challenge you to sit in front of my camera and give me the opportunity to see what I can see, but more importantly show you what other people see when they look at you.  Remember I will help you every step of the way to prepare you and guide you through the photography session. As a former nurse, I bring a calming, supportive energy to every shoot.

Hell no! You do not need any modelling experience. Everything you see in my gallery is the result of my careful, gentle direction. All you have to do is show up, breathe, and leave the rest to me.

Keep it simple, authentic and comfortable! I will help you select your outfits for your photo shoot via a Pre Styling Consultation over the phone 4 weeks prior to your photo shoot. You will be surprised by what you already have in your wardrobe.  There is no need to purchase new outfits but by all means you can if you wish.

When we connect at the consultation, the magic will flow and your outfits will come to life.  This will be more fun than you realise.  e.g. white business shirt and lingerie, favourite flowing dress, jacket jeans and bra, kimono with nothing underneath, oversized t-shirts.

There are lots of examples in my gallery and you will receive the link to the guide in the online Client Lounge when you book in your photo shoot.

An Empowerment Portrait Experience is a transformative, makeup-free photography session designed to help people to reconnect with their authentic selves. Unlike traditional portraiture, Mel Watt focuses on raw, unvarnished truth using black-and-white photography to strip away societal masks. It is a journey of self-love, healing, and liberation that results in breathtaking, soul-capturing artwork.

While boudoir photography typically focuses on external sexuality and polished aesthetics, Mel Watt’s Empowerment photography is fundamentally about your inner journey and self-acceptance. Mel Watt Photography offers more than boudoir; we focus on the soul, raw emotion, and unmasking the authentic you without the need for makeup, intense styling, or performative poses.

This experience is for any one ready to celebrate their true self, often serving as a powerful milestone during life transitions. Many of our clients book a session to:

  1. Let go of what no longer serve’s them and are done with shrinking out of fear of being seen.
  2. Celebrate a milestone birthday (like a 40th, 50th, 60th or 70th).
  3. Reclaim and honour their body after surviving cancer, illness, or perimenopause.
  4. Find themselves again after losing themselves during motherhood, divorce or poor mental health.
  5. Recover and heal after grief, divorce, or a challenging life chapter.
  6. Simply invest in the ultimate self-love and body-positivity experience.

Mel photographs women exclusively without makeup to capture their most raw, authentic emotion. Society often dictates that women must wear “masks” to be beautiful. By removing makeup, we strip away the superficial, unlearn societal dictates, and capture the true essence of who you are.

Mel will encourage you not to wear makeup. If there is anything you are concerned about you can bring along your concealer and Mel will discuss it with you on arrival.  It will be up to you what you decide.  We find 99.9% chose not to wear the concealer. We will happily remove blemishes.  Please know we will also go through this at your pre styling consultation.  It is completely normal to feel vulnerable.

Black and white photography naturally draws the viewer’s eye directly to your soul and emotions, rather than surface blemishes, pigmentation etc.

Black and white photography eliminates the distraction of colour, drawing the viewer’s eye directly to you the essence of who you are and your soul. It has a timeless, classic quality that naturally strips away the superficial, creating an intimate and deeply emotive portrait of who you truly are.

Please do not wait. Your body is worthy of being celebrated, loved, and photographed exactly as it is right now. Beauty has no weight limit, confidence has no waist size, and empowerment certainly has no pants size. Waiting until you hit a certain number on the scale reinforces the idea that you are not enough today.

This experience is about unconditional self-acceptance, and many people find that stepping in front of the camera as they are is the exact catalyst they need to finally make peace with their bodies.

The best time to do this is exactly when you are feeling afraid, disconnected, and lacking confidence. You do not need to arrive at the studio feeling confident—your confidence is built by finding the courage to show up and during the photo shoot. If you wait until you are “in the right headspace,” you might wait forever. Let this photoshoot be the turning point that pulls you out of a negative space and helps you rediscover your worth.  All you have to do is just turn up and leave the rest to me.

This photoshoot is an immersive exercise in mindfulness and self-focus. When you strip away the makeup and external styling, you are forced to confront yourself exactly as you are. By seeing yourself through a lens of compassion rather than judgment, you begin to recognise when your thoughts are self-sabotaging. It teaches you to stop comparing your unedited reality to the filtered lives of others, grounding you in your own unique power.

Movement during the photo shoot encourages you to drop into your body and out of your headspace, creating a much deeper connect of gratitude for you are.

We celebrate perfect imperfections! Society teaches us to hide our quirks, but true empowerment means refusing to apologise for who you are. The Mel Watt experience is designed to liberate you from those expectations. When you see your unique traits beautifully captured in fine art portraits, you realise they are not flaws to be fixed, but the very things that make you magnificent. Flaws are not flaws, they are a part of humanity.

Yes. Stepping into the studio is an act of reclaiming your space and dedicating time entirely to yourself. The journey of unmasking and facing the camera requires you to be fiercely true to who you are. Women who undergo this experience often leave feeling a profound sense of sovereignty, making it easier to set healthy boundaries and surround themselves with people who truly lift them up.

You will receive a link to the online guide in the Client Lounge when you book in your photo shoot.  It covers everything from preparing your face, body and mind, what to wear, what to bring and the do’s and don’ts.  We will also have a Pre Styling Consultation via the phone to help you prepare and decide what to wear.

YES, MOST DEFINITELY! This is your experience. During the Pre Styling Consultation we will discuss exactly what  you are comfortable exposing (e.g. legs, lingerie, bare back or wearing beautiful draped fabrics). Your boundaries are completely respected, and it is totally up to you.

We embrace natural beauty, so editing is kept very light and authentic. I happily remove blemishes and bruises, but I don’t remove anything that is permanent such as a scar (unless you specifically ask to remove the scar) as they are part of your story, your survival, and your beautiful journey.

Yes you can. You can view my digital collection here .  Please know that the best way to archive (preserve) your photographs to pass them onto your loved ones, is to have them printed.  I truly believe holding your print is the most beautiful way to for you to connect with yourself.

Never without your explicit, written permission. You have 100% control over your digital files. You may choose to keep them completely private, share them anonymously (where we don’t show your face), or allow us to share them to inspire others. Your privacy and comfort are my top priorities.

Your initial photo shoot fee is $350. Following the shoot, my photographic Collections start at $1600. On average, clients invest around $3800 for their heirloom photographs. We also offer interest free Pre Session Payment Plans to help suit your budget.  Click here to view my pricing and products.

Investing in your self-worth is never selfish; it is essential. As women, we are conditioned to put everyone else’s needs first, which can leave us depleted. This experience is an investment in your mental health, your self-acceptance, and your legacy. When you heal, find your joy, and reclaim your confidence, it positively impacts everyone around you. You do not need to ask permission to do something beautiful for yourself.

Yes, you can purchase a digital-only collection. However, the best way to preserve your legacy is through physical print. Our signature collections give you the option to purchase either a stunning Fine Art Album or a Portrait Box (a box of beautiful matted prints). All physical collections include the matching digital files.

Yes, giving back is a core value of the studio. Mel Watt Photography is a proud supporter of Mater Chicks in Pink, helping to raise vital funds for women with breast cancer. This connection is especially meaningful, as many of our clients come to us to celebrate their bodies during or after their breast cancer journeys.  Mel Watt is also a registered nurse and has seen first hand the impact of breast cancer. She works one day a week at PA Hospital, Brisbane.

Brisbane has a wonderful, supportive community for women’s wellness. Experiences like Pilates, pole dancing studios, and working with life coaches are fantastic for building inner confidence and strength. An Empowerment Portrait Experience with Mel Watt is often the perfect culmination of this journey—a tangible, artistic celebration of your hard-earned self-love and physical embodiment.
